Unable to apply project changes to the following page(s) ERROR

I created a phprunner site. Tweaked it out until everything was perfect in the visual editor... It runs great.. However, whenever I need to make a change and add a field to the db and in my custom SQL script, when I go to the visual editor I always get the following error message on every page:
Unable to apply project changes to the following page(s)

Check these pages and reset if they look wrong.
I am unable to see my new fields I just added unless I reset the page.. losing hours worth of customization, ie logos and formatting... etc.
I looked and there does not seem to be a way to just add a new field in the visual editor, it only appears after I reset the page.
Any thoughts?

Charlie,
to add new field to the edited page use Insert field... button on the toolbar on the Visual Editor tab.

Please note: you should check off this field on the page on the Choose fields tab and then add it on the Visual Editor tab.

Thanks for the quick reply. I already checked my two new fields off on the Choose fields tab, and verified that they appear in the Fields order and totals tab. They also appear in the choose theme tab. I looked everywhere for an Insert Field button on the toolbar while in Visual Editor but could not find one... Maybe I can get lucky by editing in HTML mode? I will try that this morning.
