header and footer

The easiest way for me is to open the header.php or footer. php in a htm editor and make my changes. - or save your own design over the header and footer.
It even works if you create header.htm and footer.htm files at first as some editors don't view php files correctly. I then just save as... the files with .php exentions after I'm done. Next time I want to change it, I change my .htm and then save as... with .php extention again.
The other option would obviously be to change the code in visual editor to say {include_if_exists file="include/yourownfile.php"} Eg. header1.php - but then you have to remember to copy it maually to the server.
I rather stick to the default header and footer except if I want different headers or footers in the same project, as I forget easily what I've done when working on a project later on.
Lastly: If you don't need a header or footer, just delete these .php files in the include folder.

I think the problem is I have somehow attached a business template as my default and now every project I load in has the templates header and footer, which overwrite mine everytime I build them, I have changed it in the templates but would like to specify a standard default header and footer
maybe the question should have been how do I detatch a template from my project

Thanks Alan, that's what I wanted to do as when I upgrade projects to v4.1 they all have the classified template which gives it that header and footer
