 Limiting number of exported records

Hello all
I'm wanting to limit the number of records that can be exported. I found on the Query Designer that I can "Limit data to first "N" rows". However that will affect more than just the export page.
Is there a method to limit the number of records for the export page and only the export page?

We do not have such an option or even an API. It is still possible to do, just lots of coding will be involved.
