Advanced Security Setting

When using the advance security setting features with "user can see and edit there data only" selected,.... I am not seeing the edit functionality when I log in with that users information.
I have also set up admin user., When logging in with admin priveage I am able to edit individual users as I would expect.
Never get the edit ability when logging in a individual user? Any ideas why?
