 Master details Tab doesn't close when Details Tab open

Hopefully I can explain this correctly, along with an image. I'm using a default boostrap template at present. When selecting the Agency Jobs tab which is a details tab from a table link. It will not close the record down (clicking the orange icon on the left) unless I click on the Master details tab (shown as Agency Contacts) first then click it, it then closes it down. Any ideas? Is it a bug?

Its a default 9.8 question - its either a bug or a feature limitation, or I'm missing something. Which is it? I'm not sure yet - but you may know.
Edit: never mind I figured it out. It was a limitation, that you have to have the addition table link as "Display Number of Child records" instead of hide. Otherwise using hide option will not close it down when clicking on the details icon unless you select the master tab. Whether or not this is down to the Master record having Display number of records. I'm not sure.
