Hi all,
I've just downloaded the trial version of PHP runner.
I've looked at the templates and they don't seem to be easily editable as the code has all been put into blocks. I don't have any experience with these, and don't know where to look for the code I need to change.

You need to clarify what exactly you trying to change.
If you are talking about templates modification - you can modify any page in Visual Editor.

I need to basically change the whole look of the templates for the 'cars' application, the inner working are fine, but I want to make it look like the design I have created. However there doesn't appear to be any way of editing the style sheets from the visual editor. The fact that the templates all work with html tables rather then divs, and all seem to use inline styles, make it really slow to change the look of anything. So much so that I don't even know where to start.

This is correct, stylesheets cannot be edited in Visual editor. You can edit stylesheet files using any third party software.
