Dithered out/ hidden

I am in the need to build a form that i can have fields hidden until picked or dithered out until picked. So if i pick 1 2 or 3 opens up but 4 remains hidden or greyed out until something in 2 or 3 is picked. I hope this makes sense. I can't seem to find any good material explaining how this works or if it can be done.
