anyone teach me how to add a readonly function in the textfield??

i've tried this but it doesn't work...

editform.fieldname.readonly = true

In the visual editor, double click on the field you want to make READ ONLY, choose the EDIT tab and there is a READ ONLY Option on the left for that field.
