How to delete file or image while update

Hi, please advise me.
The file is stored into a directory.
The file doesn't be deleted while the record is updated or deleted.
It causes the size of the directory, which stores files, enlarge.
Could the application delete the file while updating or deleting?

please check Delete file when assosiated record is deleted global option on the "Edit as" settings dialog on the Visual Editor tab.

It works while the record is deleted.
But, the file still exists while update.
