If I have a project created in Version 3.1 am I able to open it in version 5.x or do I need to use 3.1? I re-installed 3.1 however it doesn't prompt for registration information but gives me 21 day trial, can I even use ver 3.1 at all still?

You can try to open your project in version 5.1.
You can also reapply your key to version 3.1.
