How to make _list.asp page to show 1 line per row

I would like to force the _list.asp page to show only 1 line per row, due that some times it split one field into two or more lines and it occupies too much space in the screen in fields that for example are not that long but it still split it into two lines.
I tried using long Column Title like "_Description___" and it works. But probably there is a better way.
