Simple Email when record is added

Confused again.
I would like just to send an email to user who has added a record with the information he/she has added along with a standard message of what is required to do next. The "events section" on adding email with data remarks about setting SMTP settings in the Security section. The "security section" requires a "login screen" with username and password to get to screen for SMTP settings. I do not need a login or password for the the registrant to add a record. Is this possible to do without going through a login and password screen?
Could someone point out how I might do this.
I am new at this and probalbly will need painfully simple instructions

Enable login page, set SMTP server parameters, disable login page.
