I don't know if anyone has said this before but what about adding events to the menu page.
it could be a before load and after load, would this be possible in the future?

As a spinoff from this, is it possible to add a message on the menu page in any way, without altering the generated code?

In 3.1 it's very easy to add text, pictures, etc. in the visual editor by selecting the menu page.
The final release will be available within two weeks, so I'm working patiently with v.3 as I want to make sure the 3.1 is stable first.
These guys are doing a great job for us.
