 Turn Off Left Menu and Search Dialog

Just upgraded from v6 to v8. It has lots of nice features but I like the simple page layouts of v6, where my data took the entire page width. I searched the forum and tried some sugestions but I can't seem to disable or hide the left block which contains the main menu and advanced search dialogs.
BTW I'm looking for the GUI way to do this, i.e. checkboxes - I don't want to get into the scripting code.

Pick the layout with vertical menu where your data take the whole page width. You can choose Layouts on Style Editor screen.
