Cannot clear code from events

I have added a button to the data rows on my list page and have written code in the Client Before and Server events. The code is not working as expected. When I try to edit the code, I can see the edits, but the code continues to execute as if it were not edited. When I try to clear the code using the clear button, it appears to clear, but when I build or save the project, the cleared code reappears. What steps can I take to fix this?
