Word Wrap Edit Page

Hello,
I am having a bit of trouble figuring this one out. I have a text field named "notes" I have the notes field set as view "html" and edit as "read only" I used a rich text editor to add the information. I right-clicked the cell in which the notes field sits on the edit page and checked "word wrap". Now when I go to edit the record, the lengthy text in the notes field is one long string and is not "word wrapping" or using any of the paragraphs originally entered into the rich text editor.
Any thoughts on how to set the notes field to read only and also word wrapping so that the page is not so wide?
