I am at the point where I need to get money and I have been thinking about paypal.
Are there any horror stories out there that you have experienced.

I have heard a couple that it is hard to get your money out of them.
Any stories to share, before I get to far into it. Im thinking of maybe using a payment gateway from the banks but of course they all charge monthly rates and have rather large Exit costs.

At least with paypal there is no monthly fees, just transaction fees, which dont seem to bad.
Please share if you have had some bad experiences.

Well, for Paypal horror stories check http://www.paypalsucks.com/
Paypal is widely accepted and ignoring it completely won't be business wise. Personally I've been using Paypal for almost 10 years and haven't had any issues. Here are two simple rules I follow:

  1. Do not keep large amounts of money on Paypal account for two long. Transfer them to your bank account once a week or right after you received a big payment.
  2. logon to your Paypal account when you are abroad. You account is guaranteed to be frozen and God knows what happens after that. If I have to do so I logon to one of our servers via RDP (hosted in US, where my Paypal account is registered) and open Paypal website from there. You cannot be extra paranoid when it comes to Paypal.
    That should do it.

Hi Dale,
I've been using PayPal through EBay for a few years and for one year through my website. Through my website, I don't use it interactively. I receive an order and then manually create a PayPal invoice on their site. The invoice is sent to the customer who then makes the payment. I read the same horror stories that you did and I haven't had any problems (touch wood). My biggest beef is that their site can be brutally slow and asking them a question is like talking to a donkey. They always respond although sometimes the answer has nothing to do with the question. And don't try to get a better answer because it's just not worth the effort. I've had customers use Paypal the first time they buy something, then the next time they'll use their credit card. I've had no problems with transfers to & from my bank account (again touch wood). Hope this helps.
