Use of Jquery Tips / best pratices needed

Hi Guys,
Anyone use jquery to add extra functionality to allready built PhpR apps e.g cool transitions etc?
Are phpRunner events based on jquery? So should i use Visual editor to implement extra jquery functionality or the events tab in PhpR?

To become better at writing events what language should i focus on?
What are the best practices for jquery integration, can i reference a control e.g show a cool message linked to a dropdown called hospitals for example?
