The images on the list page

The images on the list page appear to be the size in KB of the original images, only that they have been re sized in pixels, this seems to make the pages load slower, is there a way to make this images display the thumbnail images ?.

what settings do you use on the "Edit as" settings dialog for this field?

Do you save files on the disc or in the database?
