PHPRunner General questions
Pfeiffer author

Hello,
in Eurpean Union Software must be Barrier freedom software (for example for blind people).

So people with Impediments can use the software as well.
The Standard is W3C defined by Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
At the moment PHPRunner creates html-Pages which don't correspond to these definitions.
So in my company it may be that I cannot use PHPRunner longer in future.

What do you plan in future concerning this problem... ??
Best regards

Uwe,
could you be more specific about what exactly is not complaint. I'm sure we can help you with this.

In North America, we used to use 'bobby approved' certification http://www.cast.org/products/Bobby/index.html until Bobby was sold and quasi-disappeared. I would be interested as well in the response of phpr team since the lack of accessibility, say for the blind (e.g. screen reading software like JAWS or Windows Eyes) somehow limits the use of phpr. On the other hand, I did not have anybody reacting to my earlier question http://www.asprunner.com/forums/index.php?...61&hl=bobby. Maybe the times are changing?

Vitas,
I need more details.

Hello,
for example :

The standard definition W3C :
There are tools in Internet (see http://aprompt.snow.utoronto.ca/download.html)) that will show you

all problems with HTML-pages. The PHP-HTML-pages shows a lot number of errors, if you test the pages

using this tool.
for example :

1.) there must be the possibility to change between records in the table view by using down/up arrow. A blind person can't use the mouse !!! At the moment you can only get access to a special record by using TAB, but if there are several 1:n Links..you will have to TAB very often..TOO often...
If you want to develop PHPRunner free of barriers you will have to read a lot...

English Wikipedia will surely give some hints.
Best regards

Vitas,

I need more details.

The details are not easy to describe since

  • there is no legislation in USA/Canada
  • Adaptive software is evolving all the time.
German- EC project http://www.barrierefrei-kommunizieren.de/f...amp;client=9 and some more initiatives appear to go further and to initiate clearer framework within European Community, starting from Germany.
Simply put, the blind and some groups of physically challenged people use different adaptive software to access pc-based information. Depending on this software, not all the web pages will be accessible to them. This means two things to the creators of not certified software:
  • it cannot be used by blind and some other physically challenged people,
  • it will not be promoted by large networks of institutions of rehabilitation, readaptation, etc.
  • in Europe, it can be limited as soon as EU legislation or even social marketing of accessibility for all the people will progress.
Some years ago, software 'Bobby' was used for testing web sites for accessibility. Multiple networks of accessible web sites were established. However actually, even the official sites of institutions mentioned use W3C validators for XHTML 1.0, CSS 2.0, WAI AAA only. In USA, Canada, even large educational, financial, governmental web sites are near inaccessible for the blind, for example.
Interestingly, earlier mentioned (Visconsin and) Toronto-based web accessibility checker A-Prompt is not used often even in Canada...

Hello Support,
I need an announcement from development, whether PHPRunner will in future support the standard norm BITV (or similar standard) for blind people.

If PHPRunner will not support it in future I cannot use PHPRunner any longer in my company (German T-COM).
In Germany you can go on trial if government software doesn't support this standard !!!
The software A-Prompt shows a lot of problems with PHPRunner HTML-Pages, so blind people cannot work with PHPRunner software !
In waiting for a positive answer
Best regards

Uwe,
we are working on 508 section compliance right now. I believe that Barrier freedom software standards are similar in many ways however we'll need some help for you in this regard.

Pfeiffer author 4/8/2009

Hello Support,
can you send me an official looking letter (per Mail) where you announce the future development for PHPRunner

to 508 section compliance.
This may help me to install phprunner-application in my office (German TELEKOM).
I think they will accept that PHPRunner does not support blind people at the moment but in future release.
Otherwise it will happen that I have to stop software development with PHPRunner.
I myself will support you if necessary but I too would only use A-Prompt-Software to check the new PHPRunner HTML-pages.
Especially it's necessary that a blind person can use arrow down key to get cursor focus to the next record within table view.

If this is possible in the actual version (with a little trick) I would be very happy.

This was the most criticized point.
Best regards
