IE forces small letters

I am making a hyperlink field in a database field that customers want to store a link to one of their network computers. It stores great. But when you go to click it in IE, it forces small letters and errors out because of the fact there are capital letters in the file's url.
Example file:///Oregus/timefiles - IE forces it to be file:///oregus/timefiles
Note firefox does not have this problem. So is there something I can do like a custom field that will force IE to recognized the capital letters in the url.
Any ideas.
