A simple example of inline editing on the list page.
Multiple records can be edited and saved at once.

Dependent dropdown boxes are supported. We currently work on adding files upload and date/time controls.
Next step will be to include Add/Multiadd function on the list page.
Here is the preview. Feel free to play with it.

It looks awesome !!! That would be very useful for master-detail update in order to eliminate a lot of page navigation. Would it support the multiple record add on the list page? I believe this feature will be available in ASPRunner too!
Thanks.

i like the inline edit feature. question though...can you lock out specific field(s) so the user can not edit, as in your example, the employee id field or more importantly, a primary key field?

Looks great! is their a reason why the dates don't work?

I agree. Great feature. (if I had the PHP version) <img src='https://asprunner.com/forums/file.php?topicimage=1&fieldname=reply&id=18395&image=1&table=forumreplies' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
I really hope you add it to ASP!

Excellent feature!!
This would be extremely useful and a great time saver for the type of apps I typically develop.... when can I get it?

Looks good. What would a picture field look like and a large text field using the text editor
Love the new Print Selected Export selected
Edit selected would be great if I checked 3 or 4 and clicked the edit selected that the actual list shorten to only the choices selected and then open up the inline editing for the short list.
And maybe another one. Display selected. Again the shortlist idea of working with the ones you selected.

Your product keeps getting more awesome by the minute !
As an extension of the inline editing feature.... how difficult would it be to put an "action button" in a line? The same way you now have "Edit" and "view" in each line, the idea would be to be able to put a column with a custom button, that would perform an "event" on its own line.
Thanks for continuing improving your program!

thank you for the invitation to test it
3 things:

  1. the "select date" does not work
  2. number of years is too long
  3. could we have inline editing feature activataed via DOUBLE CLICK?
so far these are on the fly observations.

The inline edit works really well when you want to make multiple changes to one record (row) quickly on the fly.
However, we have run into many an occasion when we need to edit lots of the same field across multiple records, and the ability to be able to have inline editing within a single column across multiple records would actually be much more useful to us...

This looks very nice. I have a couple of questions:

  1. Is there any way to (optionally) change a date field so it can just be edited as text? For example, edit '19.08.2006' to '18.08.2006' in text form. This obviates the need for pull-downs, etc., and keeps the editable lines compact. Of course a conversion routine is required to validate the edited date and convert it into the proper format for the database field.
  2. Since, in your template, multiple lines can be opened for editing simultaneously, would it be possible to (optionally) make the page display initially with all lines "opened" in that way -- so that editing any line could be done without a mode change? That is the default in many database environments such as FileMaker. I have found in the past that this format is quite convenient, and that most clients understand it right away. To them it is like using a word processor -- just place your cursor anywhere into the text and begin typing.
Thank you for your consideration. PHPRunner is a wonderful product.
    Best regards.

The inline editing feature is a FANTASTIC upgrade... extremely useful... so now that you have gotten us excited... when will we be able to download this update?
Excellent Product that keeps getting better and better... Can't wait to see what you come up with next... <img src='https://asprunner.com/forums/file.php?topicimage=1&fieldname=reply&id=18419&image=1&table=forumreplies' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I really like what I see. Having the option to do just one row or use the edit selected is a nice feature.
The Red X for cancel changes, might confuse some users to thinking it is a delete record. What about a blue circle arrow for undo?
Another member mentioned column editing, I could see how that would prove very useful as well. I can think of a few cases where my users would want to go through and just edit a couple columns in a record set with the remaining info being there so they know what they are working on.
I assume you can set some field to read only (or will be able too).
Overall this a great start to a feature that I am looking forward too.

In the view where you have a master record on top, and related detail records on the bottom... can you do inline editing of the MASTER record?

The multiline dit is perfect. What about sending email to the users after multiple line edited ? It would be great. What do you think ?

Sorry I'm a bit late to evaluate.
Most of my observations have already been mentioned.
A suggestion:

When a line is marked for edit, either via checkbox or "Edit In-Line" link, perhaps the "View" and main "Edit" links should be disabled (and greyed out) for those rows only. My reasoning: if changes are applied to in-line rows and either "Edit" or "View" is pressed, the changes are lost when you are returned to the List page. I can see a user mistakenly clicking the "Edit" link instead of the check icon to complete the action. Likewise, a user may think "View" is a preview of changes. I know this may be a stretch, but my experience says they will do it. And when they do, frustration sets in.
Finally, great work, and as the member above says, "...when will we be able to download this update?". I have a project right now that could benefit from this feature.

Like the new feature, freat for fast editing of single records.

Additionally, would it be possible top add functionality to change a group of records in this way.

i.e. click on a heading to sort the column then select all the records having f.i. a location or a job title

then change that field of that group of records.
Keep on going... Thanks Han

I hope this would be available for multiline add as well! Sorry, see this came as an addition later. will be great!

It whould be nice if fields that is readonly can not be edited by showing gray for example.
Don't know if possible, but what about a popup to ask "Do you want to save changes" if one clicked a new page without saving the records (in edit and add fields) And then a yes /no option. I'd even prever an automatic save like in Access, but that might have other consequences. At the moment records are not saved when selecting annother table from the Quicklist menu.
When can we expect?? Can't wait! need to build a project where this wold be great!

This tool and the feature you are adding are really awesome. I have checked the Multi edit option and it would be really good feature. I am just waiting for this option to come in and I have lots of projects that I will finish with this.
