Read more modal

When I use the truncate large text fields I am having problems on the list page. When viewing more of one of those long text fields from a list page, you end up back to the top of the list page when clicking the close button on the modal window. This confuses users as they lose their place in the event they scrolled down the page a bit and simply want to read more. The expected action would be to stay right where you are - keeping focus, not go to the top. I did notice if you simply "X" out of the modal, you do stay where you were.
Does anyone know if there is a way to stop this behavior of the Close Button?
