I was working on a project, and I needed to automatically hide some columns, then when the user would click on a checkbox the desired coulumn would appear.

Here is what I did

first you need to save the script below as "jquery-latest.js" (no quotes) in the same place as your Page_list.asp file

(look at the bottom of this page. It has the rest of the instrucctions)
save file as "jquery-latest.js"

HI Edgar,

is it possible to please attach the file as oppoed to pasting it in here? My internet browser (ie and firefox) get stuck when I try to copy the code.

By the way, are you also able to use jquery to set a defined size for the table with auto scroll so that the entire page width does not automatically expand if more columns are added to the list page.
Thanks

Hich

I tried to attach the file but don't see a way to attach it. I can attach media but not the file itself.
Anyhow here is a link where you can download the file http://63.170.153.235/ck/jquery-latest.js

Thanks Edgar.

Stil got a small question. My column data is hidden but the column header still shows. What do I have to do to hide the column header as well?

The idea is excellent but the implementation needs to be more user-friendly like on the jquery sample pages with this functionality where users get a choice to display that column or hide it after clicking on a table corner or just one button.

The reason why I like this functionality is that it is useful in cases where you got many columns and having so many check boxes is not ideal, much prefer to right click each column to select to display or hide it.
Something like in this link: http://www.devcurry.com/2009/07/hide-table-column-with-single-line-of.html but instead of having to toggle many external buttons/checkboxes, right clicking the table or just one button to list the fields/columns to display.
My wishful thinking is that such a feature is included in future releases ASPR to allow better display of large tables.

I entered the javascript before this tag <TABLE class=data cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0

This hides the column and column headers. Ohhh one thing I forgot to mention I did this in 6.1 about to try it on 6.2

I have a gridview with a datasource (SQL Database). I want to hide a column but still access the value when I select the record. Can someone show me how to do this?

this is the column that I want to hide and I also want its value:

<asp:BoundField DataField="Outlook_ID" HeaderText="OutlookID" />

I tried everything to hide the column (property Visible="false"), but I can't access its value.

Thank you in advance.
